PROFILE
Cherry Filter are one of the most respected and well known rock bands from Korea, partly due to the success of Youjeen's solo career in Japan.

The band have a diverse musical style taking their influences from dance and pop as well as punk rock.

BIOGRAPHY
Cherry Filter was formed in 1997 by Son Senhyon, Yon Yungun and Chon Ujin. The band's first gigs were played in the Korean underground scene in clubs, which gave them a platform to show their unique sounds to an eager public. Their sound was composed of ballads, punk rock and even trance music. The band got its first break when a record company asked the group to record a track for a film soundtrack, namely Bloody Beach, a south Korean horror film.

In 1999, they recorded the soundtrack to the film Ninko jiio yoshanashi. Shortly afterward, the original vocalist left and Cho Ujin (Youjeen) filled the vacancy.

Cherry Filter made their official debut in 2000 with their first full length album, Head Up. This album features the vocals of Crying Nut, another Korean rock band, on the track Pa-Ri 2.

Shortly afterwards, Youjeen made the decision to send demo tapes of her solo work to record labels in Japan. J from the legendary Japanese band Luna Sea picked up a copy of her demo and took her under his wing. Her debut solo album, The Doll, was reasonably successful in Japan and allowed her to work not only with J, but with Franz Stahl (formerly of Foo Fighters.) After the release of her second solo album she stopped her solo activities.

In 2001, Youjeen returned to the band and they released their follow up album Made In Korea? This album, along with the hype surrounding Youjeen's solo career, helped launch Cherry Filter into the mainstream. The song Nangman Goyangi became an instant hit and the band quickly became one of Korea's most popular rock groups. Once the album had been released, the group went on to do tours of both Korea and Japan.

2003 saw the release of their third album The Third Eye and, in 2004, the band opened for J during his Red or Dead tour in Japan. This was arguably the height of the band's success, as the group were offered a lucrative advertising contract with Coca Cola.

Their fourth album saw continued success for the group as the lead single from Peace N Rock N Roll, Happy Day, debuted at number 7 in the charts.
